There aren’t many bikes like the V-Rod Destroyer.  Then again, there aren’t many V-Rod Destroyers.  Harley Davidson released 625 of these monsters into the wild for the 2006 model year.  Technically known as the VRXSE, it remains their fastest and most powerful production motorcycle to date.

This bike was designed with one thing in mind: straight line speed.  And with the capability of low 9-second quarter miles right out of the box, it does that very well.  To be sure, the Destroyer is not intended for the street.  Its factory wheelie bar assembly and thundering exhaust make it clear where this bike belongs.  Same with the lack of any instruments, turn signals, or lighting.  Still, this example is one of very few Destroyers that has been issued a title.  While that does not mean it’s registered and street legal, having a title is very unique for this model.

The Destroyer is a visual extravaganza.  It starts with the orange perimeter frame that outlines the big V-twin engine, all nicely accented by the contrasting black with Screamin’ Eagle graphics.  You might also notice the shapely radiator cover up front or the shifter air tank at the right rear.  There are also the lightweight RC Comp drag wheels wearing Mickey Thompson tires.  It’s all quite a sight!  Bolt on the wheelie bars and everyone will know you mean business.

While this Harley might draw a lot of looks, it is really all about performance.  The engine is derived from the liquid-cooled Revolution platform with its dual overhead cams, four valves per cylinder, electronic fuel injection, and coil-on plugs.  The Destroyer pushes this setup to a full 1,300 cc of displacement along with a tremendous 14:1 compression ratio.  It also has 58mm throttle bodies, bigger camshafts, and a multitude of other high performance parts.  The end result is 50% more power than the street V-Rod.

While all that power is nice, you’ve got to be able to deliver it to the ground.  That starts with an MTC slipper clutch linked to a specially built 5-speed transmission with an electronically controlled air shifter.  This feeds the chain driven rear and a 6” wide drag slick mounted to a rigid mount aluminum swing arm without any rear suspension. In the absence of an instrument cluster, the handlebars are dominated by a programmable shift light.  But what more do you need on the drag strip?

Any serious Harley-Davidson collector should be pumped about this opportunity.  We’re talking about the baddest ride they ever built (and may ever build).  You also have very low production numbers along with an actual title.  Does anything else really compare?
